On Saturday, May 21, 2011 - the gates of New York City opened wide to receive hundreds of Hibernian men and women from across the country including the officers of Bristol Division 1. They formed up on Mulberry Street, just north of the infamous Mulbery Bend. The Bend was one of the worst parts of the old Five Points neighborhood into which arriving Irish immigrants were forced to live in the 1840s and 1850s. On this day, the Hibernians marched out of the Five Points section, accompanied by four Hibernian Pipe Bands. They next marched down Mulberry St to Prince St. They would then turn right up to Canal St and then would turn left to the Basilica of St Patricks Cathedral, the church that has become the icon of the Irish experience in New York, to celebrate the Anniversary Mass.
Below are some pictures from that special day. Enjoy!!
